    Electronic structure and superconductivity of BiS2-based compounds LaO1-xFxBiS2

    Using the density-functional perturbation theory with structural optimization, we investigate the electronic structure, phonon spectra, and superconductivity of BiS2-based layered compounds LaO1-xFxBiS2. For LaO0.5F0.5BiS2, the calculated electron-phonon coupling constant is equal to lambda = 0.8, and obtained Tc = 9.1 K is very close to its experimental value, indicating that it is a conventional electron-phonon superconductor

We reconstruct the potential of the agegraphic scalar field as well as the dynamics of the scalar field according to the evolution of the agegraphic dark energy.     Effects of Line-tying on Resistive Tearing Instability in Slab Geometry

    The effects of line-tying on resistive tearing instability in slab geometry is studied within the framework of reduced magnetohydrodynamics (RMHD).\citep{KadomtsevP1974,Strauss1976} It is found that line-tying has a stabilizing effect. The tearing mode is stabilized when the system length LL is shorter than a critical length LcL_{c}, which is independent of the resistivity η\eta. When LL is not too much longer than LcL_{c}, the growthrate γ\gamma is proportional to η\eta . When LL is sufficiently long, the tearing mode scaling γ∼η3/5\gamma\sim\eta^{3/5} is recovered. The transition from γ∼η\gamma\sim\eta to γ∼η3/5\gamma\sim\eta^{3/5} occurs at a transition length Lt∼η−2/5L_{t}\sim\eta^{-2/5}.Comment: Correct a typ

    Prices in the hog industry in Taiwan are determined according to an auction system. There are significant differences in hog prices before, during and after joining the World Trade Organization (WTO). The paper models growth rates and volatility in daily hog prices in Taiwan from 23 March 1999 to 30 June 2007, which enables an analysis of the effects of joining the WTO. The empirical results have significant implications for risk management and policy in the agricultural industry.     Diquark and light four-quark states

    Four-quark states with different internal clusters are discussed within the constituent quark model. It is pointed out that the diquark concept is not meaningful in the construction of a tetraquark interpolating current in the QCD sum rule approach, and hence existing sum-rule studies of four-quark states are incomplete. An updated QCD sum-rule determination of the properties of diquark clusters is then used as input for the constituent quark model to obtain the masses of light 0++0^{++} tetraquark states ({\it i.e.\} a bound state of two diquark clusters). The results support the identification of σ(600)\sigma(600), f0(980)f_0(980) and a0(980)a_0(980) as the 0++0^{++} light tetraquark states, and seem to be inconsistent with the tetraquark state interpretation of the new BES observations of the near-threshold ppˉp\bar p enhancements, X(1835) and X(1812), with the possible exception that X(1576) may be an "exotic" first orbital excitation of f0(980)f_0(980) or a0(980)a_0(980).Comment: 7 pages, 4 eps figures, RevTex, two figures and some references added, published version in PR

    Effects of Line-tying on Magnetohydrodynamic Instabilities and Current Sheet Formation

    An overview of some recent progress on magnetohydrodynamic stability and current sheet formation in a line-tied system is given. Key results on the linear stability of the ideal internal kink mode and resistive tearing mode are summarized. For nonlinear problems, a counterexample to the recent demonstration of current sheet formation by Low \emph{et al}. [B. C. Low and \AA. M. Janse, Astrophys. J. \textbf{696}, 821 (2009)] is presented, and the governing equations for quasi-static evolution of a boundary driven, line-tied magnetic field are derived.     Exchange Splitting and Charge Carrier Spin Polarization in EuO

    High quality thin films of the ferromagnetic semiconductor EuO have been prepared and were studied using a new form of spin-resolved spectroscopy. We observed large changes in the electronic structure across the Curie and metal-insulator transition temperature. We found that these are caused by the exchange splitting of the conduction band in the ferromagnetic state, which is as large as 0.6 eV. We also present strong evidence that the bottom of the conduction band consists mainly of majority spins. This implies that doped charge carriers in EuO are practically fully spin polarized.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
